Welcome to the ‘About Me’ section of thefingerstylist.com where I’ll discuss a bit about myself and the purpose of this website.
It Began with a Guitar
I once had a fanciful vision of what it meant to be a guitar player. It was someone that looked like they worked in a garage, blue jeans and a bandanna, that possessed a magical ability to pull out an electric guitar and Rock Out! So at age 12 I asked for an electric guitar that would empower my rock and roll journey. I became proficient with a pick, creative with chords, and even played in a band.
As time passed, my ties with bandies faded and I journeyed to the mountains for collegiate schooling. Miles from the hustling bustling city and a half a day’s drive from a family hug I began to long for the simple semblances of home. I remembered one of the first things I learned with a guitar is the TIMIRIMI pattern. This simple yet elegant pattern is the foundation of my finger picking style and canter. This is where I returned to give me the sense of home and ease my heart longed for.
6 Stringed Mission
Since that day, I rarely play with a pick. The guitar has become a more intimate extension of myself as a portrayal of mood, taste, and belonging. I’ve found that finger styling is a soothing and fun expressionate mode of play that brings calm through melody. What I hope the site imparts is the ability to confidently finger style with ease through practice, performance, and improvisation.
I found over my 15+ years of playing that what you play and listen to can greatly affect your mood and outlook. When I’m hyped up and eager I love listening to rock and roll! When I’m inundated by work, family, or friends I listen to more solemn reflective music. Where I really found passion for finger style was my time spent in the Appalachian Mountains. Time along a meandering rustling river sets the mind at ease; the perfect conduit for mellow moods and introspection.
Finger Style Promise
Fingerstyle is different from many other modes of play in that technique broadens your expressive palette. My goal of this site is to provide readers with the proper tools and regimens to build an arsenal of skills that build a thrilling dynamic to one’s play style. I want you to be able to express yourself though wonderful and melodic play that soothes and comforts yourself and those around you. With good advice, the right techniques, and a bit of practice you’ll be making unique fingerstylings of your own!
